Look Back on Your Year with Google Photos Recap
Another year is coming to a close, and Google is back with Google Photos Recap 2025 — a personalised highlight reel created from your photos and videos throughout the year. Introduced in 2024, the Recap format helps users rediscover meaningful memories with a mix of visuals, graphics, and cinematic transitions.
This year's Recap retains familiar stats like top people and total photo count, while adding a fun new metric: your total selfie count.
Gemini AI Adds Hobby Detection & Smarter Highlights
For users in the U.S. who have Gemini features in Google Photos enabled, the 2025 Recap goes a step further. Gemini now analyses the context of your photos to surface insights such as:
- Your standout hobbies of the year
- Your “one true passion”
- Your top four standout highlights
Google says Gemini models are capable of understanding the story behind your photos — whether it’s your hiking trips, baking experiments, pets, events, or creative work — and selecting the moments that truly defined your year.
You can also choose to hide specific people or photos. After doing so, simply regenerate your Recap for a refreshed version.
Create & Share with CapCut and More
Google Photos has added a powerful new way to personalise your Recap: a dedicated “Edit with CapCut” button. With one tap, you can export your Recap into CapCut and use exclusive Google Photos templates to customise it further — perfect for creators, social-media users, and anyone who enjoys creative video editing.
Sharing is also simpler this year. At the end of your Recap, you’ll find a new shareable carousel containing:
- Short videos
- Auto-made collages
- Photos styled for Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, or group chats
There’s even a new option to share your Recap straight to your WhatsApp Status — a welcome addition for Indian users who share their year-end stories through WhatsApp.
Where to Find Your 2025 Recap
Your Recap will appear in the Memories carousel inside the Google Photos app starting this week. If you don’t see it immediately, you may notice an option at the top of the app inviting you to request its creation.
After watching it once, your Recap is saved:
- At the end of the Memories carousel
- Pinned under the Collections tab for all of December
Throughout the month, Google Photos will also show extra 2025 highlight Memories, giving you additional glimpses of your best moments from the year.
Final Thoughts
Google Photos Recap 2025 is more personalised, more creative, and more shareable than ever. With Gemini AI powering deeper insights and new creative tools like CapCut integration, Google is positioning Photos as not just a gallery app — but a storytelling platform.
Whether you're sharing on WhatsApp, polishing your recap in CapCut, or simply enjoying your year-in-review, this update brings a fresh and meaningful way to celebrate your memories.
